Melissa Merchant is the creator of MakeMe workshops with support from her husband David. At MakeMe you can choose a workshop that lasts a few hours, learn new skills and leave with your own creations.
24 September, 23 October, 19 November and 11 December - Free Motion Machine Embroidery with Sarah Dodds. Learn how to draw using your sewing machine to complete fabulous pieces of art that you will take home in a lovely box frame. You can either create your own design or use one of our many templates and use a sewing machine to ‘draw‘ your piece. We have an assortment of both designer and vintage fabric and assorted ribbons, beads and other embellishments. Learn the basics of free motion embroidery, how to thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin and stabilise your work and free sew plus various design and embellishment techniques. All materials and equipment required for this workshop. This class is suitable for absolute beginners. £35
Studio Time – The workshop is available for Studio time between courses where you can book hour long slots to work on your own project in our studio. Use their large worktables 9instead of the floor or dining table) and borrow a new Janome computerised BCC-30 machine. They will also provide lots of moral support and might be able to help if you had a question or two if you get stuck.

Fabric flowers – This workshop is for beginners to get acquainted with a sewing machine.
Make a handbag – On this workshop, make a pretty bag and learn to insert lining and zips.
Make and embellish a drawstring bag – This is a workshop designed for children as an introduction to machine sewing and appliqué.
Upcycle a Cardie – Learn how to appliqué and embellish an existing item in your wardrobe.

Make a Fascinator - Create and make your own fascinator for a special occasion using Sinamay, feathers, veiling and other materials on this one day workshop. Learn how to form and sculpt delicate Sinamay flowers and trimmings and apply them using hand sewing techniques to your base, hair comb or hair band.
Make Up Bag workshop
Make this useful little bag for your make up. Learn how to insert a zip to give a professional look.


Bag Making workshop

Make a series of bags starting with a lined shopping tote bag. Developing your skills further with a zipped make up bag, a messenger style bag, a handbag and making a kiss lock metal frame bag. Learn about adding piping, add boning, embellishing your bag and how to add a magnetic clasp.
Fabric Flower Brooches
Make fabric flowers from the petals to rosettes and turn them into brooches using your sewing machine. Use to embellish garments, bags, hats etc. This workshop is ideal for beginners.


Pattern Cutting

If you have ever wanted to know how to adapt commercial patterns or make up you own pattern from scratch on these workshops you’ll learn to construct a basic pattern, make up a toile for fitting and adapt them to your own design. Once you have an understanding on how a pattern has been constructed you will be able to create from your own designs using your blocks.

Basic skirt block - Using your body measurements learn how to construct your own fitted skirt block and make a toile of your pattern.: £125.00

Basic Bodice block - Using your body measurements learn how to construct your own bodice block and make a toile off your pattern plus learn how to combine it with the skirt block to form a dress block. £125.00

Basic Trouser block - Construct your own perfect fit trouser pattern block. Make a toile off your pattern and learn how to fit it against your body. £150

Beaullah’s craft workshop boutique and sewing cafe in Chelmsford, Essex aims to teach the people in and around the area various crafting skills and turn to handmade and eco-friendly makes. The vintage workshops offer to up-cycle materials that cannot be recycled and thus reducing CO2 footprint still with quality and style.
7 September and 5 October - Textile Pictures. Taught by Sharon Blackman, participants will be taught how to maximise and use vintage fabrics (old shirts/sheets/baby clothes etc) and transform them into gorgeous hand sewn textile pictures ready to hang up in your home.

The Textile Space is situated in an 18th Century grade II listed flint and oak timbered barn in the heart of the village and part of the Goodwood Estate and it’s 900 sq ft is filled with sewing machines, cutting tables, dye vats and loads of fabric/thread; an exciting and professional venue to learn new skills for adults and children bringing all things textile under one roof!

Choose your own dates – Choose the workshop and choose a minimum of 3 friends. Making with friends is a great way to spend time with them whilst learning some new skills.

3 -4 September - Tailored Trousers. Make a perfect fitting pair of tailored trousers on this two-day weekday course. Make a Calico toile to learn how to make alterations to a pattern and cover perfect pockets, zip and seams. Basic sewing skills required. £145
24 – 25 September - Depth and Transparency. Explore the contemporary and creative art of felt making. Learn pre-felting techniques, layering, stitching, embellishing, laminating and cutwork collage. Create a piece that has a depth, richness with gentle transparency and evokes a painterly outcome. £145

Le Jardin du Cure run a range of patchwork courses and workshops in this idyllic part of South-West France. Set in a hectare of beautiful garden with a pool and situated in an area full of excellent markets and restaurants, this is an ideal break for anyone who enjoys the fascinating art of patchwork.

These patchwork holidays offer a great combination of a relaxing break in one of the holiday homes (The Chapel, The Cottage or The Vestry) but with the added benefit of tailored patchwork tuition. Learn how to make quilts using wavy borders, folds, nine patch blocks and jelly-rolls, plus free cutting stars.
